The Story:
3 years before my first appearance on Penn and Teller in 2015, I wrote a manuscript on a new moving ink effect I discovered using sticky-notes. Later that same year, I had a friend help me film a tutorial in my living room. The basic method was the same, but I still had not refined the techniques to make it what it would eventually become. This is the original video tutorial and written manuscript for those who are interested in the evolutions a trick goes through.
The Effect:
The performer writes a freely selected letter on a sticky note, drags the letter around the paper a few times only to hand out the paper for immediate examination at the end with the letter on the paper in a different place than it started. “Object Permanence” has become one of my pet routines I can perform in any environment. It is a unique and highly visual travelling ink effect that is quick to prepare and extremely easy on angles. It leaves people with an impossible souvenir, and, best of all, looks like real magic even to the performer.
